CONSEQUENCES

The United States is one of the largest markets in the world, Canada being one of its main partners. Heavy penalties may be imposed upon business people, professionals and businesses engaged in illegal activities on the other side of the border.

Any commercial activities carried out by a foreign worker in the United States require that the individual hold a proper work visa.

U.S. immigration officers are well aware of the frequency of your U.S. border crossings. Indeed, when presenting your passport to the immigration service to traverse on American soil, it is duly noted each time by the officer.

Here is a reminder of the consequences to which a worker is exposed to when trying to travel to the United States to conduct illegal work:

PENALTIES

• If you are caught doing illegal business in the United States, and this for less than one (1) year,you could be banished from the United States for a three-year (3) to five-year (5) period;
• If you are caught doing illegal business in the United States, for more than one (1) year,
• you could be banished from the United States for a ten-year (10) period;
• If you are caught making a false statement at the border, you could be banished from the United
• States for a five-year (5) period.
• If you are caught making a false declaration at the border, you could be banished from the United States for a five-year period;
• All these decisions are taken forthwith and are final; there is no way to reverse these decisions.

These sanctions can affect not only individuals but also the company for whom he/she works. In addition, when a person is banned from the United States, he will need to obtain a U.S. pardon, in order to be able to return to the United States again.
