It is simply the acronym representing Electronic Travel Authorization, which came into force on November the 9^th, 2016. This requirement costs only 7 $ CAD and can be approved within minutes of applying. It was made specifically for visa-exempted foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a valid Canadian visa. Of course, Canadian citizens, including dual citizens and Canadian permanent residents, cannot apply for an eTA.

To apply online for an eTA, you must have a valid passport, a credit card, and an email address, as well as a few minutes to complete the online form. In most cases, your eTA will be approved within minutes. However, some may take several days to process.
