As of April 30, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will apply new rates to all applications for permanent residence. As in 2020, significant increases will be observed. They range from $15 to $50 depending on the application and the nature of the applicant.

Permanent residence is the part of immigration that allows foreigners to come to Canada to settle permanently. It includes the categories of economic immigration, family reunification and protected persons.  It is accessible after request and favorable opinion from his country of residence. However, temporary residence (temporary work, studies, etc.) is also a gateway that allows access to permanent residence by applying from Canadian soil.

The increases in the application fee that are coming into effect shortly come two years after the last increases. Indeed, it was in 2020 that IRCC decided, after 18 years of practicing the same fee schedule, to raise its prices. It also announced at that time that this readjustment would now be made at two-year intervals to take inflation into account. Logically, we could therefore expect future increases in 2024.

The increases relate to applications for permanent residence for the principal applicant, his/her spouse and dependent children. The only tariff that has remained the same is that of biometrics. It remained at $85 CAD per person (fingerprints and photograph), or $170 CAD for families of two or more.

However, the increases, which you will be able to read at length below, only apply to applications at the federal level. They do not concern procedures at provincial level. The fees for applications for the Certification de sélection du Québec (CSQ) and Certificat de sélection temporaire du Québec (CST) remain those set by the Québec immigration authorities. As a reminder, Quebec on January 1, 2022 has held that the CSQ application is $822 for the principal applicant and $176 for all persons (spouse or dependent child) who accompany him.
